Circle Time
What we do in our Circle:
Book Time: Students look at books while we transition from play to Circle and we play quiet music as we wait for all students to arrive. A timer is set up to 5 minutes to give the children time to adjust.
Teacher Reads Story or has short Theme/ Unit Lesson or use surprise box that has a themed object inside to talk about .
Review Circle Time Book with rules embedded in the expectations
Attendance:
We added paper presents with picture to stockings December, 2008
The children either verbally reply or use a communication device
Also ask if child is happy or sad. Point to pictures if unable to verbalize and hand child an unbreakable mirror to show how he or she feels
Who is here? We match names/and pictures. An example would be to match a laminated paper farm animal to a laminated paper barn with child's picture on it .

Speech Practice/Phonics Practice: Sing Dr. Jean's "Who Let The Letter's Out"
This is great for the little ones with speech and language delays since they are practicing how to make all letter sounds. The children love this part of Circle
Song Choices
Each child gets to pick a song to sing from our pictorial song book.
Only show one page to the student. Some children are only given 2 pictures to choose from. I do this according to the ability levels of my students.
Songs are changed weekly to reflect the theme and to introduce new songs. Favorites are soon picked. This summer the favorite song children wanted to sing was the "Sponge Bob Theme Song" We made up motions to go with the song, such as saluting and make square shapes in the air.
Musical instruments are also used in music time.
Pictures come from either clip art or from Boardmaker pictures.
